Description

Hoisin sauce is a popular Chinese sauce with a characteristic sweetish taste and spicy aroma, which is used in Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine for preparing various marinades and served with meat and poultry dishes. In terms of consistency, the sauce can be both thick and liquid, depending on the composition. Hoisin sauce is a dark mahogany liquid, the color of which is given by red rice. Hoisin sauce is very salty, slightly sweetish, with aromas of various spices. It is based on fermented soybean paste, which gives it an umami flavor, while garlic and chili peppers add spicy piquancy to it. Red wine vinegar, sugar and sesame oil are also essential ingredients. Hoisin is used as a glaze for meat, served with spring rolls, Peking duck, French fries, added to Wok noodles and Pho soups.
